Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

Floor Care Tips

  • Use cool water when mixing stripper solutions. It minimizes odors and helps keep product in the bucket/tank rather than evaporating into the air. Floor surfaces are usually cold, so the solution will cool to the temperature of the floor as it is applied. There is no additional benefit to using hot water.

  • New floor installations require removal of factory finish prior to instituting any floor care program. Some floor manufacturers claim their factory coatings are compatible with standard finishes/sealers. Although this may be accurate, we recommend stripping new flooring as the factory coatings are typically damaged or soiled during installation. Although some floor manufacturers state that an initial strip out is not necessary, we recommend it to provide a clean fresh surface to apply your seal/finish. Follow manufacturer directions for proper adhesive cure time before stripping.

  • One of the simplest and most effective ways to protect the finish from tracked in soils is the use of entrance mats. A minimum length of four feet is required so that each foot hits the mat surface at least once. For entrances where soil enters quickly from extreme conditions, matting or runners of 6-10 feet are necessary.

  • When using a new cotton or rayon mop, be sure to soak overnight in water and all purpose cleaner to remove natural oils that can reduce the absorbency of the fibers. This process also removes excess lint. Use cotton mops for stripping, and rayon or rayon blend for sealing/finishing.
